Coachella-Inspired Hair Tips from Celebrity Stylist

Coachella hairstyles are all about playing with relaxed, carefree looks. Whether it’s just a simple beach-waves look, or a braided style accented with a flower crown, festivals are the perfect time to experiment with effortless styles. And the best part of relaxed looks are how easy they are to recreate at home! Celebrity hair stylist and Rowenta Beauty Brand Ambassador, Josue Perez, gives us the 411 on how to do these simple Coachella-inspired hair styles at home.

Wavy Locks Paired with a Floral Crown:

  1. The best part about this look is two-fold: it’s the easiest look to achieve, and the most classice for a music festival style! The best of both worlds.
  2. Let your hair air dry for this look; you don’t want your hair blown out because that will take away the natural kinks of your hair.
  3. Do a light side part, or whichever your most comfortable with, playing on your hair’s natural part.
  4. Take a styling iron, and using as a straightener, straighten the roots of your hair only to keep them nice and smooth below the flower crown, but keep the rest of your hair wavy or natural.
  5. Using the styling iron for waves, fix any unruly pieces by giving them a slight wave. Do as needed for all of your hair.
  6. Get creative! Pick a flower crown to top off your look. Spray lightly with holding spray to finish.

French Braid Crown

  1. This look is gorgeous for a festival, and doesn’t require too many steps.
  2. Brush your hair back, removing the part from your hair.
  3. Next, begin at one side right above your ear, and grab a large section of your hair, dividing the top half and bottom half.
  4. French braid your hair up and over the crown your head as opposed to French braiding back.
  5. Continue braiding until you hit behind the ear of the opposite side. Clip with bobby pins to hold in place, and let the rest of the hair fall down to meet the bottom layer.
  6. Take the bottom layer, and twist up into a bun so that it sits right below the French braid.
  7. Lightly tug on both the braid and the bun so that the hair is loose, forming the look to come together.
  8. Spray with hairspray to hold!

How to Extend Your Lashes, Naturally

How to Extend Your Lashes, Naturally

Now, more than ever, ladies are wanting longer, fuller, flirtier lashes, and it is easier to achieve faster with the rise in popularity of lash extensions over the past few years. But, regardless of how great they look, lash extensions come with a price and could be damaging to your natural lashes & lids. So, if you're not willing to cash in on this trend or put your lashes on the line, then you might want to opt for a variety of ways to extend your lashes naturally.

In the various ways I've tried to enhance my eyelashes, I've found a few good tricks to make my lashes look longer and fuller. And, they don't involve applying a strip of fake eyelashes everyday. I don't have the patience nor the time to apply fake eyelashes, let alone get them on straight! So, I've put together a list of 4 simple steps to extend your eyelashes naturally

4 Steps to Extend Your Lashes, Naturally

  1. Start with an Eyelash Curler
Using an eyelash curler is a no brainer for me. I have shorter lashes, so this always creates length and curl from the get-go. Start your lash process with an eyelash curler, and make sure you hold it on your lashes for 5 seconds or longer.

  2. Apply Your Favorite Mascara
Apply a thin coat of your favorite mascara. This can be any mascara you like! Make sure to apply the mascara on both the front and the back of your lashes. This will ensure fuller eyelashes. Popular mascaras include:

    maybelline great lash loreal voluminous

benefit they're real mascara dior show mascara

  3. Find a Good Mascara Comb
This is the key to de-clumping and smoothing out your lashes. Use a second mascara or simply, a mascara wand, that is more like a fine-toothed comb. It's not a mascara brush with soft bristles, but it is more like a mascara comb with rubber bristles. The tougher bristles will help to brush out your lashes without removing any of the mascara.
Covergirl Mascara WandAfter you apply your first coat of mascara, brush your lashes out with a good mascara wand. This will de-clump and separate your lashes more evenly. The best mascara wand I have found is the Lash Glamour Extreme Lengthening Mascara by Bobbi Brown.

  4. Try Something New - Extend with Fiber Lashes
One of the newest products to hit the market is the Moodstruck 3D Fiber Lashes by Younique. This eyelash set is a duo featuring a transplanting gel and natural fibers that you apply to your lashes after mascara to increase thickness, volume and length. These babies will take your lashes to a whole new level in length!

This step is the icing on the cake. After combing out your lashes, apply the Younique fiber lashes to go the extra mile. First, apply the transplanting gel to set the stage, and then, before the gel dries, apply the fiber lashes. Last step—apply a second layer of the transplanting gel to set the lashes. And, wallah! You will notice longer, fuller lashes immediately.
I've recently started using the 3D Fiber Lashes, and I must say, I am a huge fan! My lashes are normally short and stubby, but with these steps, I can now lengthen my lashes on the go. No more costly lash extensions or fake eyelash strips. The only cons? You might get a few loose fibers on your lashes or your cheeks. Just brush them off and go.

For a quick final review, skim your lashes to make sure you are clump-free. Use the mascara comb to remove any clumps and to separate your lashes. And, that's it! You are good to go.

How to Cure Cracked Cuticles

Cracked cuticles and dry hands can take even the best manicure from chic to eek. Cuticle picking and biting can also lead to bacterial and viral infections and dental problems. One of the best ways to break this habit or keep pesky dry cuticles at bay is to quench skin with an ultra-hydrating moisturizer.

Celebrity nail artist for the likes of Katy PerryPink, Rachael Ray and Allison Williams, Pattie Yankee’s go-to hand and cuticle moisturizer is Yu-Be Moisturizing Cream.

Yu-Be Moisturizing Skin Cream

“I love how hydrating it is,” says Pattie, “not only does it instantly replenish moisture, it is silky and doesn’t feel heavy on the skin.” Yu-Be’s Moisturizing Cream is a concentrated glycerin-based moisturizing cream enriched with vitamin E and B2, sodium hyaluronate and camphor. Yu-Be’s ultra-healing capabilities are largely due to is high glycerin content which helps skin attract and retain moisture.

Keep Cuticles in Check with 3 Tips

  1. After showering, using your fingers, push cuticles back when they are still wet. This will train them to stay back.

  2. Apply a high glycerin based cream, to hands and cuticles throughout the day, especially after showering and before bed.

  3. Never cut cuticles as this will cause the skin to grow back thicker and harder – cuticles also seal in moisture and block germs out of the body. Cuticle cutting is actually illegal in salons in some states, including New York as it is considered a medical procedure.
