Rock the Rouge: Vampy Lips

Ruling the runways for fall/winter 2012 were bold lips in every shade of red, burgundy and plum. This season, beauty trends are all about drama with rich, modern colors in daring hues. Red is always right, but if you want a fresh twist on a bold classic, opt for a darker wine-stained lip. Whether garnet-red merlot or a deeper burgundy, a vampy vino color is sure to draw attention to your lips this season.

Pairing a vampy color with a neutral face, the overall effect is to draw attention to the lips. Create the perfect pout by following a few simple steps:

How to Apply Vampy Lips

Step 1 - Prep your Lips

The key to a perfect pout starts with a good base. Prep your lips with daily exfoliation and moisturizing. Whether you’re trying a new color or buffing off dry skin, daily maintenance is a MUST for putting your best face forward.

Step 2 - Pick the Right Shade for your Skin Tone

It’s always important to wear the right color for your skin, otherwise, your up-to-date beauty trend will come off looking not-so-hot. If you have fair skin tones, go for brick red or berry; medium skin tones should stick to burgundy and maroon; while dark skin tones can pull off deep wine colors and browns.

Step 3 – Apply a Foundation

Apply a foundation or concealer on and around the lips for a clean slate. This will brighten your shade and keep the color from bleeding.

Step 4 - Use Lip Liner

A little lip liner goes a long way. Line your lips and make sure to blend it inwards. You can also color your entire lip for extra staying power. Use a liner that matches your lipstick or one that matches your own natural lip color.

Step 5 - Apply Lipstick with a Lip Pencil for Precision

The more precise the better. Lip pencils have a smooth, creamy texture that is perfect for lining the lips and filling them in. They are used to shape the lip and create long-lasting wear. Use a pencil to apply your lipstick for perfecting your pout.

Step 6 - Add a Clear Gloss

For extra pop, add a clear gloss to the middle of your lips if you want a shine or have thin lips.

Again, pair the lips with a minimal look. Keep the rest of your makeup simple and your lips will pop!
