Spring 2014 Hair Trends

Spring is upon us, and every season is followed by new hair trends. The beauty experts at one of the top cosmetology schools in Texas, Ogle School, have put together a guide to 2014’s spring hair trends to make sure you don’t fall behind! Their cosmetology and beauty school students and alumni share their tips to help you stay ahead of the curve and more fashionable than ever.

Spring Hair Style: Vintage Braids

Braids have been popular for years, but 2014 brings a romantic twist. Instead of structured and simple, these braids are perfectly messy. The braids can be seen on the runway of designers such as Alberta Ferretti, and the messy structure is said to resemble a hairstyle a peasant girl would wear during the Renaissance. You can go one step further by pulling the braids up and pinning them around the head in a more regal, crown-like way, as seen on the runways of Nicole Miller and Rebecca Minkoff.

Spring Hair Color: Balayage

Literally translated to “sweeping,” balayage is done when the colorist takes a small section of hair and sweeps the color onto the top. Then, he or she uses a paddle to apply more color toward the bottom. This creates a more natural, effortless look to highlights and gives colorist more control over the placement of highlights. This technique can be done on any hairstyle, but we especially love Jessica Biel’s light balayage effect on her dark hair. We’re telling you, it’s time to balayage!

Spring Hair Cut: the Midi

Named the single best hair cut for every face shape by Elle Magazine, the midi cut is making its mark this spring. Considered the “middle child” of hair length, this below-the-shoulder but above-the-chest cut is perfect for all. It is versatile and gives a sophisticated edge to your style. You can rock curls, straight hair, beachy waves or an awesome updo with this diverse style. If seeing Rachel McAdams, Gwyneth Paltrow and Olivia Wilde rocking this spring trend doesn’t convince you, we’re not sure what will!
