Valentine's Day Fashion Inspiration

Fashion Inspired by the Day of Love

by Lindsey J. Wiese, Blog Joie de Vivre

Still deciding on the right outfit for Valentine’s night? I think styling for whatever kind of evening we’ve got planned is on all of our minds this week. No matter what’s marked down in your calendar on February 14th—a hot date, a cozy night in with your significant other, or a girl’s night out—I think we can incorporate just the right amount of sexy to celebrate the holiday.  To help outline a little Valentine’s Day outfit inspiration, I surveyed all the gorgeous looks donned by the ladies who attended Austin Beauty Guide’s 3rd Annual Beauty Goes Red event last week. Everyone was dressed up & wearing their red, proving to be the perfect testing ground for Valentine’s Day!

  1. Leather:  A woman in leather can command a room, no? There’s been quite the resurgence in leather separates over the past few seasons: those leather skinnies that are everywhere right now, laser-cut leather for summer…there’s even leather sweatpants! Or, vegan leather leggings and wax-coated denim are great options for a leather-like look.  Forever fierce, sleek leather says you’re someone with confidence and comfortable being in-charge.

  2. Casual-Cool:  I love these casual cool looks because minus the red twist, they closely resemble the wearer’s personal style.  Depending on the occasion, sometimes just adding a touch of faux fur or sparkle to your everyday look is just enough to make an outfit special.  If you’ve got a date at the movies or are planning to prepare an intimate dinner at home, these looks are cozy without sacrificing fabulousity.

  3. The LRD:  So we’ve all heard of the LBD (Little Black Dress) but it’s time to add another staple to your closet, the LRD—Little Red Dress.  A good true red—a Valentino red—will never go out of style and in the right fabric & cut, will always look classy and chic.  It makes a statement without saying a word and evokes emotion & power.

  4. Statement Accessories:  For your outfit’s finishing touches, play with pops of pink & red for an added color punch.  I love this little red clutch, as well as the newest selection of fun colors from Kendra Scott Jewelry.  Or, just ask your Valentine for a little something by Austin’s favorite jewelry label…that works too (hint, hint, fellas!).

  5. Black with a Bold Red Lip:  If you’re just not that ‘lady in red,’ rock an all black-look accented by a bold red lip. I’m really into this pairing—it’s a little bit vixen, a hint gothic, and a whole lotta sexy. Make sure to keep eye makeup to a minimum in order to let those statement lips shine and go either totally matte or ultra-glossy with the lip color texture.  Oh, and bonus points for chunky gold accessories.
